Abstract | Remote sensing (RS) is an important tool for mapping, identifying and monitoring the earth surface. In this work, we use RS and digital image processing (IP) techniques to extract information from a SPOT-5 high resolution image, from a small area of Minas Gerais state. The main goal of this work is to evaluate and compare, for this image, pixel and region based supervised classifiers, and also evaluate how the increase of image resolution affects classification accuracy. For this an image of July 5, 2003 was used, of the satellite HRG/SPOT-5 of 10 meters of space resolution, composed of 3 multiespectral bands (green band (1-G), red (2-R) and near -infrared (3-B)) and a panchromatic band of 2,5 meters of space resolution. The color composition of the image SPOT-5 was transformed, through the technique of the spectral linear mixing model and by the technique of image fusion. The result of the applied techniques were evaluated and compared by pixel (MaxVer) and region (Bhattacharyya) based supervised classifiers. Through the evaluation of the kappa index, it is verified that the MaxVer classifier presented better results when compared to the supervised classification of Bhattacharyya, for the derived image of the spectral linear mixing model and for the image fusion. However, the classification supervised by Bhattacharyya, it presented better kappa index when compared to the classification of MaxVer, in the image of color composition. |
